Trip to Pangyo Time Machine from Three Kingdoms Dolbang Grave to Digital Aquarium

Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, Korea

Just a few years ago, Pangyo was just a restricted area of outskirts of Seongnam or Gyeongbu Expressway. The development of a new city led to the construction of a large-scale apartment complex and many IT companies nesting in Pangyo Techno Valley have now become the most modern city. Examination of the excavations reveals that Paleyo had already lived during the Paleolithic period. In the Hanseong Baekje era, belonging to Baekje, Jangsu King descended to Koguryeo in the late 5th century and Silla since the mid 6th century. It has been part of Gwangju since the Goryeo Dynasty, and only 40 years ago. Starting from the Three Kingdoms Ancient Burial Mound, a digital aquarium that looks like a scene of the future and a shopping mall Avenue Franc are leaving for a day trip to Pangyo where you can travel in various time zones as if you were riding a time machine.

Pangyo Museum with Baekje and Goguryeo Stone Chamber

Pangyo Museum is a place where exhibits of relics and ruins discovered during the construction of Pangyo New Town show the long history of Pangyo. In the process of cultural property research conducted prior to the development of the housing site, nine ancient tombs of Hanseong Baekje era, two ancient Goguryeo tombs in Sampyeong-dong, the Goryeo period and Cheongja, and the white porcelain period were discovered. A museum was built in the area where Baekje burial mounds were mainly excavated and opened in the winter of 2013.

It's a single-story building from the outside, but when you enter, it's one floor above the ground, but you'll be surprised because it's several times deeper. As a museum that mainly displays burial mounds, the entire building is concentrated under the ground.

Of the nine Baekje burial mounds, two were asleep in the ground without excavating outside the museum. Goguryeo burial mounds were so large that they were numbered and rebuilt.
Back into the tomb of Baekje for over 1,500 years
Baekje and Goguryeo burial mounds are both stone stones tombs. Most of them are believed to have been made in the late 4th century to the late 5th century. Baekje burial mounds were piled up firmly in small stones, and Koguryo burial mounds mainly used large stones.

Ornaments, earthenware, clay pots and plates were unearthed in Baekje tombs, while no artifacts were found in Koguryo tombs. There are various types of burial mounds that may have been buried, two twin rooms with two stone chambers, and mounds with many traces of lime on the floor and walls.

There are separate experience spaces between burial mounds. Activities include matching a ceramic puzzle, stamping a relic with a major relic, taking a peek into the camera to see the inside of the tomb, discovering relics with a touch screen, and taking quizzes. If you are accompanied by an elementary school student, take advantage of the activity sheet given at the entrance.
Space for various hands-on activities
Pangyo Museum does not have many exhibits compared to the large museum, but you can see the stonebang tomb of the Three Kingdoms era right in front of you. In addition, the difference between Baekje and Goguryeo tombs can be identified immediately.
