Looking for the simple station of the old central line, from Yangpyeong Paldang Station to Ganhyeon Station
Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Korea
More than 20 years ago, I thought of a trip on the Jungang Line Pigeon Lake from Cheongnyangni. When the train rattled past Deokso and Yangpyeong and ran with a slow, steady force in the direction of Wonju, I thought that I would like to have a little more than 10 days of enlistment while holding my chin on the window sill.
When you go to Gangwon-do or the East Coast, Guri and Namyangju are the places you can pass by. Nowadays, there are many new paths, so the route to Gangwon-do is diverse, but in the past, going to Chuncheon or Wonju had to go through the Donongsamgeori in front of the Namyangju Police Station.

From here, heading towards Wonju, passing Deokso to Yangpyeong, ran along the Jungang Line railroad. Sometimes I ran side by side or crossed each other, and I met faces with passengers in a train. Such a central railroad track was transformed into a double track railroad track after several years of construction. As the new train line was laid, the fate of the old Jungang Line was mixed. After removing the railroad tracks, it became a bicycle path, or the use of it for rail bikes changed, or some sections disappeared. All that's left is to lose some railroad tracks and only a few simple stations.
Old Route 6 passing by the Paldang Dam
After passing Deokso and near Paldang Station, there are several bicycle rental shops along the road. In recent years, the vicinity of Paldang has emerged as a bicycle mecca. Although many bicycle paths have been opened along the river stalks across the country, there are few places that are as nice as the Paldang ~ Yangsuri ~ Yangpyeong section.
There are many bicycle rental shops on the roadside near Paldang Station.
The bicycle path along the site where the old railway line was removed is passed through the tunnel section of Yeraksan Mountain and looks out over the beautiful lakeside of Paldang. When the road reaches Joan-myeon, you will find Neungnae Station.
The place where the old railway line was removed was a bicycle path.
Neungnae Station opened in 1956 and was closed after the double-track electrification of the Jungang Line in 2008. However, it is fortunate that the old history has not been demolished and is decorated and preserved as a photo exhibition hall.
Neungnae History, opened in 1956, was closed in 2008.
When you enter the room, you can see faded photos hanging on the wall. There are also photos of the old look of Neungnae Station, middle-aged men and women in school uniforms, and bright smiles of attired couples.

School uniforms are also available so that visitors can borrow and leave photos. After pushing the gate that was the ticket gate, you can see the platform and railroad tracks where passengers were waiting for the train.
Neungnae Station Waiting Room Stove
There is a wooden stool on the platform. There are a few older women sitting there, funneling up and talking as if they were back in their high school days ago.

Unlike Neungnae Station, which has been preserved as it was in the past, all of the simple stations from Yangsuri to Yangpyeong have disappeared, and a modern history has been created.

From Yongmun, get off the national road and enter the 341 local road. The area around Jipyeong-myeon, centered on Jipyeong Station, was where the United Nations and the People's Liberation Army of China fought fiercely during the Korean War. Since the winter of 1951, the Allied Forces, which have been pushed by the Chinese military offensive, hold a commemorative event every year in honor of their successful counterattack. However, the Jipyeong Station Square, where the event is held, has recently been newly constructed, making it difficult to find old traces.

The following Seokbul Station is a simple station with only a palm. Although it is a newly built history, it is very small and looks different. Compared to the newly built stations from Ungilsan Station to Jipyeong Station, the squares and personalities of the new stations are as good as toys.
Seokbul Station on the newly established Jungang Line
I remember the placard I saw as I passed around a few years ago. There was the phrase 'opposite the demolition of Seokbul Station, which is the foot of the local people'. At that time, I passed by indifferently, but it was a serious issue for the local people. Thanks to that, even though it is small, a new Seokbul Station has been established.
The new Seokbul Station is small and cute like a toy.
The old Seokbul Station still remains nearby. After looking at the old history of removing the railroad tracks, I ran into the staff of Yangpyeong County Office. He also said that there are plans to preserve the old simple stations left in the hall and turn them into tourism resources. If you want to take a photo, Gudun Station beyond the hill is in good condition, so he tells you to go there.
The old Seokbul Station became a closed station and the railway was removed.
Gudun Station was recently designated as No. 296 by the Cultural Heritage Administration. This is due to the fact that it maintains the best shape among the simple stations in Yangpyeong to Wonju and has excellent views of the surroundings, and is recognized for its conservation value. Recently, as it became known as the filming location for the film <Introduction to Architecture>, more people were looking for it.

When you enter the waiting room, long chairs and timetables remain. When you open the gate of the ticket gate and go out to the platform, you can see red and rusty railroad tracks and carriages.

The juniper tree on the front side has the name 'wish tree'. Each visitor hung a note on each branch. However, the station yard is a cultural asset, and as a whole, it feels a bit bleak as if it was before full-scale maintenance. Still, the large ginkgo and wish trees are worth seeing, and the simple atmosphere of a simple station feels like a scene from a short film.

Maegok Station and Pandae Station also have a new history. The old Maegok Station has already removed the railroad tracks, and Pandae Station is still in its old form.
Maegok Station, destined to be demolished
In the flower bed in front of the closed waiting room, tall blue lilies bloomed amongst lush weeds. Even though the railroad tracks were red and rusty, it is still a scene where trains are likely to come in from the other side of the mountain.
Pandae Station
Pandae Station The next Ganhyeon Station belongs to Wonju-si, Gangwon-do. It is Seomgang that divides Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do between the two stations. The sign “Wonju Rail Park” is hanging at the entrance of Ganhyeon Station, which is located across the designated bridge over the island river. Ganhyeon Station looks compact and repainted like a simple station.
Ganhyeon Station was reborn as Wonju Rail Park.
The interior has been transformed into a rail bike ticketing counter, and rail bikes line the platform waiting for passengers. The 7km section between Ganhyeon Station and Pandae Station has 7 bridges and 6 tunnels that cross the island river and Samsancheon River, and the surrounding scenery is excellent, so it will be very popular in the future.

In an age where everything is changing rapidly, people have a breathtaking experience. Those who are tired of the speed need space to rest for a while. If you look for simple stations on the old Jungang Line, you can taste the warmth and the feeling of time slowly flowing.
