Enjoy the view of the canyon along the stream of the Nakdong River, the gorge train V-train of the Baekdudaegan

Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do, Korea

The view of the gorge created by the stream of the Nakdong River spreads out of the car window. You will never see it when you travel by car. It is a scenery that can only be met by climbing the V-train and Baekdu-daegan gorge train. The pine trees growing in the rocks and the beautifully colored larch are as close to touching as you can. Let's get on a three-car train that will make your memories unforgettable.
The three-day V-Train that travels between Cheoram Station in Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do and Buncheon Station in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do three times a day, is a three-car tourist train that meets closely the gorge of the canyon created by the stream of the Nakdong River. Because it is a train that passes deeply through the V-shaped canyon, it has the name V-train. From Cheoram, you will travel by train for about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Seokpo Station and Seungbu Station to Yangwon Station and Bidong Station to reach Buncheon.
The picturesque scenery that stretches out of the window is only accessible by train. This is because Seungbu Station, Yangwon Station, and Bidong Station are not connected by road and cannot be reached by car. It is also the reason why many travelers make a reservation and take the Gorge Train between Baekdu-daegan. Taebaek Cheoram Station and Bonghwa Buncheon Station, where trains depart, are always crowded with excitement and excitement.

It is also worth taking a short trip to Cheoram while waiting for the Baekdu-daegan train departing from Cheoram. Cheoram is the largest coal mine facility in Korea built during the Japanese occupation. As coal was transported to the whole country through this place, many people once lived, but it is still as if the clock stopped in the 1970s. Around the Cheoram Station, there are murals depicting the stories of former workers at the Tantanjang and their families. When you cross the bridge in front of Cheoram Station, the empty houses lined up along the stream show an unusual scenery.

An unusual scenery around Cheoram Station
People who want to take the Baekdu-daegan Gorge Train at Cheoram Station are reminded of the expectation of a train trip. The appearance of the train waiting for travelers on the platform is also impressive. A locomotive that resembles a baby tiger that has been walking around Baekdu-daegan and a train with an exotic yet cute pink appearance catches the eye.

The train interior is also different from the regular train. It is divided into two rows of seats along the car window and seats for two people to sit side by side. The ceiling was decorated with luminous lights to shine when passing through a dark tunnel.

There are only three trains, but there are also crews who are in charge of broadcasting and information, and there are also shops where you can buy snacks.

The train departing from Cheoram Station passes the simple station, Dongjeom Station, and speeds up to Seokpo Station. The full-scale canyon tour begins after Seokpo Station. The train, which ran at about 60 km / h, passed through Seokpo Station and ran at a speed of around 25 km / h, slowly pulling the scenery out of the window.
A traveler who captures the scenery spread out through the window
There are also various views of the scenery spreading out the window. Some travelers are busy moving to capture the scenery, while others sit there and enjoy the scenery silently. In order to record the itinerary as a video, there are people who leave the camera at the end of the train at all times.

At Seungbu Station, famous for the phrase “three pyeong in the sky and three pyeong in the land,” you can stop at the station for about 10 minutes and feel the atmosphere of the simple station in Oji Village. The unexplored gorge reaches its peak in the section from Seungbu Station to Yangwon Village. The V-train runs along the stream of the Nakdong River, which originates from Taebaek and flows south, as if stroking the gorge of the gorge.
V-train stopped at Seungbu Station
Yangwon Station is a station called “the first private history of our country”. There were no trains in Yangwon Village located between Seungbu Station and Non-dong Station. In order to take the train, residents had to walk to Seungbu Station or Nondong Station.

Residents who could not bear to buy cement themselves made a small history, and finally the train started to stand. At that time, the history and simple toilet made by the residents still remain.

The scenery inside Yangwon Station, where small wooden chairs and old TVs bring back memories, is beautiful. There are also difficulties selling dried wild herbs, medicinal plants, potato rice cake, and corn. It's a busy time for a quiet Oji village.

If you are a trekking traveler, you can also walk on the “Zermatt Road” from Yangwon Village to Bidong Village. Zermatt and Buncheon Station, where Switzerland's glacial express train departs, have a sisterhood relationship, and the newly-named “Zermatt Road” is a road used by villagers in the past.

It is also good to walk with two feet as a friend of the sound of the canyon. Although it is not long as it is about 2.2km, you can experience the harmony of nature with the valley and mountain path.

There are spaces on the train where you can leave another memory, soothing the regret of the train journey running towards the final station. You can write a simple note and leave it on the wall of a train, or buy a postcard to tell a story. If you put it in the mailbox on the train, it will be delivered to you in a month and you will be able to reflect on the memories of your trip.

The V-Train now arrives at the final station, Buncheon Station, through the non-dong village where the villagers lived. Buncheon station and tiger dolls decorated with Swiss chalet atmosphere present another highlight to travelers.

As more and more travelers visit Buncheon Station, it is full of vitality in the quiet Buncheon Village. The villagers jointly run a restaurant to convey the taste and heart of the mountain village.
